Customize How Documents Are Saved in Office 13 Programs

Do you want to know how to customize how documents are saved in Office 13 Programs? Do you want to change the default file format when you save a new document or want to remove the OneDrive location as a storage feature and many more other functions that available? These tips will help us working with Office much better and easier. Just keep on reading below.
First of all we must select the File tab in order to move to backstage view. Once in backstage view we select the category Options from the left of the drop down menu. Once selected the Word Options dialog box appears as shown in the image below. Then from the right of the Word Options dialog box we select the category Save from the left of the window.
Here we can Customize How Documents Are Saved as this dialog box mentions. In this post I will mention the options we have under the area named Save Documents.
First of all we can change the default file format which is used by Office Programs in order to save all the new documents that we create. If we select the drop down menu next to the command Save Files In This Format, all the available Formats will appear where we just select the one that we want in order for our documents to be saved. For example we can set it to previous Office versions or to save it as a Webpage format.
By default when we are working on a document in Office program, it automatically saves it every 10 minutes, even if we don’t press the Save button. Very handful feature, just in case something goes wrong. We can enable or disable the AutoRecover feature that is available by activating or de-activating the check box next to the command Save AutoRecover Information Every XX Minutes as shown in the image below. We can also increase or decrease the minutes that we want the AutoRecover to be enabled.
We can also enable or disable the check box next to the command Keep The Last Autosaved Version If I Close Without Saving. This means that if we close the document without saving it by accident an autosaved version will be available.
Next to the command AutoRecover File Location, we notice the path of where the Autorecover Versions of our documents will be saved. If we want to change the location we just press the Browse button and select the new path, in order for our Autorecover versions to be saved.
Next we have the following commands available in order to be enabled or disabled just by activating or de-activating the check boxes at the left of the commands:
Don’t Show The Backstage When Opening Or Saving Files: If we don’t want the backstage view to appear every time we open or save a file we just activate the check box next to the command.
Show Additional Places For Saving, Even If Sign-In May Be Required: If we don’t use our OneDrive account we can disable the check box next to the command. This will remove the OneDrive option from file open and save pages.
Save To Computer By Default: If we activate the check box all the files will be saved to the Computer by default.
Finally, all our documents in Office programs are saved in the default documents directory. If we want to change the default directory in order for our documents to be saved somewhere, we just select the Browse button next to the command Default Local File Location, and then navigate in order to select the new location.
The same stands for the Default Personal Templates Location, where we type in the new location for all our personal templates to be saved.
Whatever changes we do at the end we press the OK button and all the changes will take effect straight away. Most of these changes apply to all Office Programs, meaning that if we change something in Word, it will also be applied in Excel and PowerPoint automatically.
