Insert a Text File In a Word 13 Document

In a Word Document we can insert Text from a File. This file can either be a Word document, an XML file, a Web Page, a Rich Text Format file, an Open Document Text file, a Text File and many more sort of files. For the purpose of this post I will insert a Text File in a Word Document. All you have to do is to follow the steps below.

First of all we must select the Insert tab and then locate the Text area on the ribbon as shown in the image below.

Insert - Text

Once located we select the arrow at the right of the command Object and then from the drop down menu that appears we select the command Text From File as shown below.

Text From File

Once the command Text From File is selected the Insert File window appears as shown in the image below.

Insert File Window

At the bottom right corner of the window, we select the arrow next to where it mentions All Word Documents. Once selected the drop down menu appears, with all the supportable extensions that we can insert in our Word Document. For this post I have selected to insert Text Files (*.txt) as we can see below.

File Format

Once selected we then navigate on our computer in order to locate where the text file is located, and then we select it. Once selected we press the Insert button which is located at the bottom right corner of the Insert File window.

Insert File Window

Then the File Conversion window appears as we can see below. Here we select the encoding that makes our document readable. In the middle of the window, we have a preview of the text that will be inserted in our document. Once we have made the adjustments that we want, we just press the OK button.

That is it!!! The text file has been inserted in our document as shown below. With the same procedure, we can insert any other supportable formats in our Word document.
