# Insert an Equation in Word 2016 Document

Are you a mathematical person who writes Equations? Ever needed to write an Equation in a Word Document and to present it? This is where Microsoft Office comes in. The Insert Equation is available in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook. In this post I will describe the insert Equation in Microsoft Word 2016.

First of all we must select the Insert tab and from the right edge of the ribbon to locate the area named Symbols as shown in the image below. Once located, we select the command Equation as shown in the image below. Straight away the drop down menu appears with the following available predefined Equations to use: Area Of Circle: The area of a circle is the number of square units inside that circle. If each square in the circle to the left has an area of 1 cm2, you could count the total number of squares to get the area of this circle. Thus, if there were a total of 28.26 squares, the area of this circle would be 28.26 cm2. The Binomial Theorem is a quick way of expanding (or multiplying out) a binomial expression that has been raised to some (generally inconveniently large) power. Expansion Of Sum: You can take the sum of a finite number of terms of a geometric sequence. And, for reasons you’ll study in calculus, you can take the sum of an infinite geometric sequence, but only in the special circumstance that the common ratio r is between –1 and 1; that is, you have to have | r | < 1. Fourier Series: A Fourier series is an expansion of a periodic function f(x) in terms of an infinite sum of sines and cosines. Fourier series make use of the orthogonality relationships of the sine and cosine functions. The computation and study of Fourier series is known as harmonic analysis and is extremely useful as a way to break up an arbitrary periodic function into a set of simple terms that can be plugged in, solved individually, and then recombined to obtain the solution to the original problem or an approximation to it to whatever accuracy is desired or practical. Once an Equation is inserted in our Word Document, a new tab appears which is named Design and is part of the Equation Tools main tab as shown in the image below. The Design tab of the Equation Tools is separated in the following areas:

• Tools: We can insert a new Equation, convert the selection to 2-Dimensional Form, convert the selection to 1-Dimensional Form or convert the selection to Normal Text.
• Symbols: We can insert Symbols in the Equation that are not available on our keyboard.
• Structures: We can click the Structure type that we want, such as a fraction or a radical, and then click the structure that we want. From the drop down menu of the Equation command we also have available the following commands to use:

• More Equations from Office.com: Once selected a new drop down menu appears with more Equations for us to use.
• Insert New Equation: Once selected we can insert a New Equation.
• Ink Equation: We can insert a Mathematical Equations using our handwriting as shown in the image below. We just draw our Equation and once finished, we just press the Insert button in order for the Equation to be inserted in our Word Document. That is it!!! The procedure of inserting an Equation in a Word Document is very simple. All you have to know is how to write an Equation.
