How To Insert Headers and Footers in PowerPoint?

Headers and Footers are repeated elements that are displayed at the top and bottom of every page. Headers and Footers are available in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. For this post, I will be mentioning on how to Insert Headers and Footers on a Slide or Notes and Handouts in Microsoft PowerPoint. The Headers and Footers are separated by different placeholders in different positions. Whatever information we insert into the placeholders will be displayed in the according position. How To Insert Headers and Footers in PowerPoint

We must select the Insert tab and then from the right area of the ribbon we locate the Text area as shown in the image below.

Once we locate the Text area, we select the command Header & Footer. The content of the Header and Footer will be repeated at the top and bottom of each printed page. By using the Header and Footer, it will be useful to display info about the Presentation, such as the File Name, the Date and the Time. Once selected, the Header and Footer dialog box appears as shown in the image below.

The Header and Footer dialog box is separated in two tabs. The first tab is the Slide tab as shown in the image below. Whatever adjustments we make on the Slide tab, will be applied and viewed only on the Slide tab. On the Slide tab, we have the options to Include On The Slide the following:

  • Date And Time: All needed is to activate the check box, so it can be displayed. If we activate the Date And Time, we have the option to be Updated Automatically and selecting an appropriate Format from the drop-down menu. We can select the Language and the Calendar Type. If we need a Fixed Date and Time, we activate the check box and type in the area pane what we need. We can also display the Slide Number, by activating the check box. At the bottom we can activate the Footer area, and then type in the text pane what we want to be displayed in our Slide. Finally, at the bottom of the Header and Footer dialog box, we have the option to select if want to Show or Do Not Show On the Title Page the adjustments that we just made.

At the right of the Header and Footer dialog box, we have a preview of where everything will be inserted in our Slide.

In the next image, on the Header and Footer dialog box, the Notes And Handouts tab is activated as shown below. Whatever adjustments we make, will be available and viewed only on the Notes and Handouts. On the Notes And Handouts tab, we have the options to Include On The Notes And Handouts the following:

In the next image, I have selected the View tab and then from the area of the ribbon named Presentation Views, I have selected the Notes Page command. Then we have a preview of how our Handouts and Notes Page. We have a preview of the Header and Footer that we have inserted. As shown, it will be printed also.
